Our Girls Who Code Club (NY100) is located in New York City and hosted at P.S. 9000. We are a group of four girls learning computer science for the first time.
When deciding on our club's theme, we noticed that many businesses, books, YouTube videos, and movies lacked women role models in Tech. As a result, we want to create projects that feature these powerful women. We also want to educate our peers about the importance of Women in Tech. Our first few projects highlight Sonya Carey, Ayanna Howard, and Simone Giertz. We had a great time learning about their accomplishments, personalities, and contributions to CS! We first learned Scratch, a block-based language, to create stories, animations, and adventure games. We then learned Python to create chat bots and make our computer speak to us! Finally, we created a mobile application in Thunkable, another block-based language. It's amazing how many projects we've created with a just a few programming tools. We are excited to create more! |
